Praise

for Wisdom of the Earth, Wisdom of the Body

"In "Wisdom of the Earth, Wisdom of the Body” Jennifer Raye has shared with us a beautifully poetic introduction to the principles of Chinese medicine, ayurveda, and yoga. Her writing style is warm and inviting, conveying the flow and harmony inherent in the medicine that she’s teaching. Even when simplifying complex principles, Jennifer imparts an appreciation for their essence. As a practitioner, this is a book I’d enthusiastically share with my patients and suggest to those at beginning and intermediary stages of study in the healing arts. Jennifer provides us with an excellent introduction to the Chinese Five-elements. The message is that, 'we are the world, we are the cosmos, and our health and integrity is in no way separate from the natural sphere.' Now, as the delicate web of life hangs in the balance, Jennifer’s book is medicine for both us, and for our times.

The wisdom of the earth and the wisdom of the body exist in relationship to each other and their most common bond is change. May this book illuminate for all its readers the practical wisdom of parinama, the movements of time and seasons that govern each of us. Jennifer Raye brings together her decades of practice in wisdom traditions to offer us a guide that counters today’s complicated stream of health information with time-tested and awareness-based healing techniques that really work.

In Wisdom of the Earth, Wisdom of the Body, Jennifer Raye beautifully weaves together ancient healing traditions with a deep reverence for the natural world. This book is a wise and timely guide that reminds us how our bodies are not separate from the seasons, the elements, or the rhythms of the earth. Drawing from Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and embodied practices, Jennifer offers practical tools for living in balance with nature—inside and out. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking healing, vitality, and a more intimate relationship with life.

Jennifer Raye’s guide to integrating TCM five-element theory with yoga practice offers all of us an invitation to the wise ecology of our body. Her practical, structured guidance and poetic writing encourage the reader to experience evergreen subtlety and nuance in their practice.

Through her seamless synthesis of yoga and traditional Chinese medicine, Jennifer Raye invites us to collaborate with the living intelligence that moves through redwoods, oceans, starlight, mountains—and our own human bodies. For practitioners looking to enrich their yoga and meditation by attuning to the subtle energy pathways within and the elemental wisdom of the natural world, this book is an essential healing resource.

There aren’t many people who truly understand both Chinese medicine and Ayurveda from the inside—let alone make them this usable. I so appreciate the practical, accessible seasonal guidance in these pages, especially in a time when so many of us feel disconnected from natural rhythms—the expressed truth of the grand mystery of creation. Returning to those rhythms puts us in direct relationship with that Truth. This book is a map back to it. I love it.

In Wisdom of the Earth, Wisdom of the Body Jennifer Raye weaves together the ancient wisdom of traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. While this elegantly organized guide offers philosophical concepts and practical tools that support physical as well as psycho-emotional well-being, at the heart of the book is a prayer that we remember and honor our connection with the Earth as well as with ourselves, a reminder we all need now more than ever.

I was so impressed with Jennifer Raye’s new book on the body and Eastern medicine. For those already familiar with Eastern traditions, it will deepen and integrate your understanding. For those who are newly interested, Jennifer takes you into a new world of healing the body and the mind, and does so in a way that you don’t feel overwhelmed.

A beautifully woven guide that brings together the wisdom of Chinese medicine and Ayurveda in a way that feels both accessible and profound. I especially appreciated the depth of research and the seasonal and elemental approach. This book provides a rich and practical resource for yoga students seeking deeper balance through the wisdom of Chinese medicine and Ayurveda.

One of the most delightful aspects of being human is our continual curiosity and generosity of spirit. Our care for each other and ourselves has led to selfless acts of experimentation and the discoveries of systems of wisdom that have been passed down for centuries from all over the world. Clearly, there is not an only or right way of anything, but many ways that are symbiotic in nature and spirit. What I love about Jennifers book is that she weaves with intelligence, wisdom and actual direct experience some of our best wisdom traditions to offer a compendium to peruse and try for ourselves. Through her guidance we can each find our paths with direct experience and the self-compassion needed to take great care of ourselves, each other and the planet we call home.

The alchemical synthesis of yoga and Traditional Chinese Medicine is dear to my heart and I love that Jennifer Raye teaches a holistic practice based on the five elements. I will be recommending Wisdom of the Earth, Wisdom of the Body to students in our yoga school for years to come.
